Probably the most famous of all battles on Scottish soil, the Battle of Culloden took place on 16th April 1745 between the Jacobite army of Bonnie Prince Charlie and the government forces under the leadership of the Duke of Cumberland. Rory’s Top Tip.. Free parking is available immediately before entering the gate. Or in the main parking area if NTS member.

The richly researched, stimulating and sensitive Culloden Visitor Centre, which stands beside the battlefield, features artefacts from both sides of the battle and interactive displays that reveal the background to the conflict. It is both a monument and a guide to a pivotal day in history.
