A lot of "old Georgetown" is gone now, and the pandemic took away a few more favorites, but Clydes lives on. It is owned by the same group that owns The Old Ebbitt Grill, 1789, and The Tombs. It's a pub like The Tombs but with a slightly more upmarket feel, and there is minor overlap on the menus. This is a great alternate if The Tombs is too crowded. Reservations are usually wise.

Clyde's is part of a local chain. This is the original location, where I spent many nights when I was single. We have both matured. I love their filet mignon and martinis.

The original, quintessential Washington, DC saloon. Juicy burgers, deli-style sandwiches, omelets and award-winning chili; Alaska halibut and wild salmon, Maine lobster, pasta and entree salads. Weekend brunch. Half-price wine on Sundays. Open daily. Late-night dining. The 1976 hit song "Afternoon Delight" by Starland Vocal Band was inspired by the spicy happy hour menu at Clyde's of Georgetown.
