Valtavaara Hill - that is the highest point of Kuusamo area - is definitely worth a visit all year around. From the top the view is spanning tens of kilometers over, even across the Russian border.

A hut worth visiting by foot or with xc-skis or snowshoes. Appr. a 1,5 hour walk to this place. You get to go inside to warm up with open fire. Note: you have to put up the fire in case there have been no other visitors during the same day. Firewood are available on the spot but you might want prepare with lighting aid as the wood sometimes is not that dry.

The views and the nature are magnifique. There are good trails to hike and nice places to stop for a break or outdoor dinner. There is no restaurants or cafés on the trail, but stops and "laavu" with wood for making a bonfire. You can also make a fire at the fireplace on top of Valtavaara in the firemans old cabin which is open for everyone without extra costs.

Upea reitti lähtee Saaruan parkkipaikalta Valtavaaralle ja takaisin niin kesällä kuin talvella. Hyvät kyltit ja eväiden syönti onnistuu esim. uusitulla laavulla Talvella käytössä winter trail, joka hieman lyhyempi. Asunnolta Saaruan parkkipaikalle n. 500m
