Part of the Table Mountain National Park, Silvermine Dam is within the Silvermine Nature Reserve. The dam is a great place to swim, within the reserve there are numerous hiking trails, MTB routes to ride, great views over Cape Town to the Hottentot Hollands Mountains, to Noordhoek Beach and Kommetje on the Altlantic side and the False Bay coastline Muizenberg to Simonstown and down to Cape Point.

Heaps of hiking trails start and connect to the Silvermine Reservoir. If you're a hiker, it's a good place to start a 1-3 hr trek!
There's a gorgeous reservoir you can cool off in after a long hike. It's one of my favourite swimming spots.
The reserve is popular during the warmer months for its beautiful hikes and picnic spots next to the dam, but the wild nature of the surroundings are equally highlighted in winter when the mist lies low above the fynbos and the rain turns everything green. The hike to Elephants eye is relatively easy and extremely beautiful and afterwards you can reward yourself with a swim in the dam . It’s gloriously vibey in summer without being crowded.
