The Snake's Tower is an old Roman lighthouse. It takes its name from an ancient legend. It's believed that a water snake had drunk all the lighthouse's oil one night. In the same time, an Ottoman fleet was willing to land on Otranto to attack it, but they weren't able to land without the lighthouse's light and Otranto was safe. For this reason, the snake and the tower are Otranto's symbols. This is a magic and mysterious spot which is loved by who adore the landscapes and the walks in the countryside.

Risale al periodo romano,un'antica leggenda narra di un serpente che ogni notte saliva dalla scogliera per bere l'olio che teneva accesa la lanterna del faro.

Se siete arrivati alla Cava di Bauxite di Otranto e volete fare un giro o una passeggiata intorno, vi possiamo suggerire di raggiungere a piedi la zona intorno alla torre del serpente, dove potete visionare la grandezza del mar Adriatico e se siete fortunati (generalmente di mattina presto) potete riuscire ad avvistare le montagne dell’Albania. Torre del serpente Otranto La Torre del Serpente di Otranto risale al periodo romano e la sua funzione, a differenza delle torri costiere, che servivano all’avvistamento, aveva una funzione di faro. Il suo nome le viene dato per una leggenda legata ad un serpente che si dice che ogni notte saliva per bere l’olio che teneva acceso il faro. La Torre del Serpente è sul simbolo della città di Otranto, ed è molto importante, è un luogo affascinante dove fare una passeggiata di trekking e soprattutto scoprire le erbe spontanee della macchia mediterranea, è un’itinerario che vi consigliamo fortemente, magari anche andando a mangiare all’agriturismo di Marta, un’anziana signora che ha l’agriturismo proprio di fronte alla torre e vi farà assaggiare i piatti tipici del Salento e di stagione.

La torre del Serpe, sita a pochi km a sud di Otranto, è un'antica torre di avvistamento delle minacce Saracene. Non solo un importante luogo storico, per il quale gli idruntini lo hanno voluto fortemente nello stemma cittadino, ma si può godere di un paesaggio mozzafiato tra mare e natura.
