Kutaisi, the capital of Imereti, is Georgia’s second largest city after Tbilisi. Elegant, tree lined streets with 19th century houses stretching down to the banks of the Rioni River, along with several attractive parks, make Kutaisi a very beautiful place to stroll around and take in the many sights.   In the Jewish Quarter a number of synagogues demonstrate the long history of the Georgian Jewish community. The town’s largest synagogue, built in 1866, can seat 500 worshipers. The magnificent churches of Bagrati and Gelati – both UNESCO world heritages sites – testify to the importance of the region.

Stunning city, used to be the centre of medieval Georgian kingdom. Has numerous impressive churches, monasteries and is home to Sataplia Nature Reserve and caves and dinosaur traces (found 1933).

Colchis Fountain In the middle of the city, on its main square stands an interesting fountain. It is decorated with enlarged models of archaeological artifacts found on the whole territory of Georgia. For example, the famous bronze sculpture “Tamada”, which dates back to the 7th century BC. In the Georgian language, “Tamada” means a leader of the “supra” feast table who proposes toasts. The main figure of the fountain represents a woman’s temple jewelry _ a magnificent model of antic time goldsmithery.
