Constructed in 1815 after the war of 1812 (when the original White House was burned in 1814), this austere exterior plantation (on the National Register of Historic Places) was named by the owner, William Kirkland for his Scottish birthplace of Ayr. The interior is plush early 1800's and the scenic grounds include a 1 mile meandering 'Poets Walk trail.

This historic mansion dates back to the early days of Hillsborough - 1815. Popular for weddings; tours are excellent. Open from 9 am to 5 pm - later in the spring and summer. A nice afternoon.
