Golden Gate-broen

The bridge never gets old, even for longtime residents. It is spectacular, and is best experienced by bike. It’s two miles long and takes 20 minutes to cross. For a great ride, rent a Mission Bicycle, take the Wiggle to Golden Gate Park, and then cross the Presidio to the bridge and ride into Sausalito. From Sausalito, catch the ferry back to SF. The western walkway is open to cyclists only, so you get across more quickly. Tourists tend to mob the eastern, pedestrian side. At night, the bridge is closed to pedestrians but not to cyclists. You push a button and an unseen guard buzzes you in.

Amazing view from the San Francisco side, even better if you go up to Battery Spencer. Best time to avoid the fog is to cross between 1-2 PM. You can hike here through the Land's End trail or from Pier 39 / Marina Greens.

Rent a bike from a bike shop around Pier 39 and bike across the Golden Gate bridge. Or drive over to hike Hawk Hill in the Marin Headlands. The 3 mile hike will reward you with 360 views of San Francisco.

Once called "the bridge that couldn't be built," today it is one the seven wonders of the modern world. This magnificent span, perhaps San Francisco's most famous landmark, opened in 1937 after a four-year struggle against relentless winds, fog, rock and treacherous tides.

One of the popular destination everyone. 3 landing spots to visit. I would recommend taking I80 first, visit all 3 landing spots on Golden Gate bridge to appreciate all the distinct breathtaking views and return via route 580. You will be able to visit Downtown Sausalito before returning.

My favorite view of the bridge is from Marin Headlands. And best time to go is right before sunset.

Rent a $5 bike from us, take them on the ferry and ride across the bridge. Take the Sausalito ferry back to the city, ride to the Ferry Building and on back to Alameda.

[One of Markus' TOP 10 Things to See and Do around the SF Bay Area] The best selfies are taken from Battery Spencer on a hill to the north and west of the bridge. You can use your smartphone's map apps to get there.

Park
“What to say? One of the great parks of the United States. Just head down the hill to Kezar Stadium (at the very bottom of Willard Street) and you'll see the GGP right beyond it (walk around Kezar to the west to enter the park). You can also enter on Stanyan and Haight (and at many other points). Enjoy the Academy of Sciences, de Young Museum, Japanese Tea Garden, Stow Lake, the Conservatory of Flowers (great night time light shows in the summer and winter) and many, many other features of the park.”

“Constantly bustling -- people use the square mostly as a space to relax and soak up a bit of sun, and to wallow in the atmosphere created by the surrounding cable cars, hotels and shoppers. Great for people watching! There is free wi-fi provided by the city. Look under the leaves of the greenery in the planters, and you'll find a few power outlets for your laptop.”
