Located near downtown Portland in Washington Park, the Oregon Zoo is home to more than 2,600 animals.
Our Zoo had been under construction for a few years before Covid hit but is now re-open with much improved access due to a new timed entry reservations system. The Carousel and the Chimpanzees are my kids favorite stops. We are members and like to get there pretty early around 10 to beat the crowds and see as much as possible before my kids get tired. You can bring your own food for a picnic on the big lawn next to the Elephant paddock or buy food there (even alcohol)!

It’s a zoo! Even if you don’t want to pay the ticket price you can go past the front gate and check out the shops, snack stands, and mountain goat exhibit. Take the bikes on the Max and zoobomb when you’re done! (Careful, not too fast, now.) Pro tip: visit the rose garden on the way back to Lovejoy.
