This is my absolute favorite place to take the kids in the city. It’s easy to get to by car, plenty of paid parking (and if you get lucky free parking on Connecticut), and lots of great things to see. They have pandas, elephants, giraffes, apes, lions and way more.
An after-hours visit to the National Zoo during ZooLights, which illuminates the zoo with more than 500,000 environmentally-friendly LEDs, animated light installations, live music and more. Bid good cheer to various animals on display. ZooLights runs Nov. 29 – Jan. 1 (closed Dec. 24, 25 & 31).
Our national zoo - and it’s free! The Amazonia exhibit and the pandas are highlights.
Awesome place to visit with kids / family. The zoo is free. And while it isn't too large, there are plenty of wonderful animals to observe. Notably the pandas are probably the most popular attractions.
Open daily and free to the public, the National Zoo sits on 163 acres in the heart of Washington, D.C.’s Rock Creek Parkand is home to more than 2,700 animals representing more than 390 species!

“Natural history appeals to all ages! There are artifacts that you can’t possibly see them all in one visit. The dinosaur exhibits, the Family Hall of Mammals, and the Sant Ocean are fascinating and great for adults and kids. Then there's the cinematography and scenery in the IMAX films that's simply stunning.”

“Nature and outdoor enthusiasts will love Rock Creek Park, a forrest-y enclave in the middle of DC. Those looking to pursue outdoor activities can hike, walk, bike, go horseback riding, play gold or tennis, and enjoy a picnic. ”

“The National Mall is basically Washington DC’s backyard – it’s a grassy lawn where visitors and locals hang out on sunny days. Full of world-class museums (we’ll get to this later) and fun festivals, the National Mall is the center of many activities in the city.”
