The Tenement Museum If you're interested in the architecture of lower manhattan I highly recommend their walking/architectural tours - I've worked and lived in the lower east side for over 10 years, and after my first tour I was embarrassed by how little I knew about the amazingly rich history of the neighborhood. I enjoyed the first one so much that I've taken 3 more since then, and I learn something new (actually many new somethings) each time!

Love this gem! See how people lived in NYC over 100 years ago and you may notice that the apt. You are staying shares the same qualities. Hence a tenement apt.
