Best explored on bikes or kayaks and the earlier the better. Or, for a beautiful soft white sand beach experience, drive to the state beach at the very end of the refuge (partially dirt road). Limited parking down there so go early and tell the gatehouse attendant that is where you are going…

Plum Island offers miles of sandy beaches and the Refuge is home to over 800 species of birds, plants and animals on 4,662 acres. Sandy Point is a State Park and a wonderful place to swim, or go tide pooling.

You practically have the entire beach to yourself! Ride bikes to the end of the island or just take a stroll on the sand.
