Grunta Beach is a hidden treasure of Woolacombe Beach. You can get there via a steep cliff pathway and is difficult to reach but it is more than worth it once you get there. It isn’t a very busy beach making it a perfect for a tranquil spot. Dogs are welcome through the year.

Lovely secluded cove to the right of Woolacombe Sands as you look out to sea.

Only possible at low tide ( especially good during the big spring tides). So worth it if you get the timings right, the beach creates massive rock pools, some deep enough to just stand and big enough to swim some lengths. also sand to keep the kids entertained.

Further along the coast path, towards Morte Point, you will come across Grunta, named after an incident when a ship with a cargo of pigs ran aground here. This beach is really only accessible at a very low tide via Combesgate, or by a fairly steep cliff path at any other time, which does make it harder to reach but can be worth the extra effort to enjoy a quieter beach away from the crowds. Beautiful, deep, sand bottomed pools make Grunta great for children to swim in and explore this hidden gem. When the main beach is full, you almost always find you can have this beach to yourself. Like Combesgate, no toilet, or shop but simply a wonderful natural beach.
