Set within walking distance of the sea, amongst farmland, wild meadows and the all-important orchards, Drove Orchards is an expanding family run business that’s been operating for over a century. The kitchen garden supplies seasonal fruit and vegetables all year round and the vast orchards offer 160 different varieties of apples and pears. Many varieties of apple juice are pressed onsite using traditional methods and are well worth a purchase if you are a lover of good apple juice. Drove Orchards are considered to be 1 of the top ten best pick your own sites in the UK. Choose from apples, pears, plums, gages and other soft fruits, (all seasonally dependent of course). My favourite time of year to visit is September when the apples and pears are at their best for picking. There’s so much on offer at Drove Orchards that it’s a great place to visit all year round. The farm shop is packed with fresh meat, groceries, cheese, bread and local beers as well as their own range of apple, pear and quince juices and fresh fruit and vegetables. Adjacent to the farm shop you’ll find Gurneys Fish Box which offers some of the finest seafood in Norfolk. There’s certainly an abundance of fresh, local produce and tasty treats for all to enjoy. Guests are encouraged to come along and learn about the heritage and conservation, enjoy a walk through the orchard and learn about the different varieties of apple and where they came from or get up close to nature with a stroll through the beautiful countryside. If you fancy a spot of retail therapy you can enjoy the delights of Nelle-DK, Joyful Living, Nippers of Norfolk and the newest edition HortiCo. More recently Drove has seen the arrival of Barnetts Thornham (Haridressers), Cider Barn Antiques and Vintage, East Coast Gelato and HortiCo Nursery and Garden Emporium. All these lovely little boutique style shops are well worth a visit. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to lunch. Eric’s Fish and Chips offers traditional British Fish and Chips with some modern twists. Eat in or takeaway options are available and they even have a table tennis table outside and the children’s play area is close by. The Yurt has recently opened its doors again, now offering Eric’s pizza. Enjoy freshly made hand stretched pizza made from 24 hour fermented dough cooked in a traditional wood oven. All in the beautiful surroundings of a traditional Yurt. Takeaway and click and collect also available.
