The Weeks Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve is a field laboratory and research facility along Weeks Bay estuary, about 6,000 acres in size. It receives freshwater from the Magnolia and Fish Rivers, and drains a 198 square miles watershed into the portion of Mobile Bay via a narrow opening

One of the nation’s 28 National Estuarine Research Reserves, this 6,000-acre protected shoreline provides research and educational opportunities as well as habitat for a wide variety of wildlife. The reserve features nature trails, handicapped-accessible boardwalk trails, hummingbird and butterfly gardens, and a pitcher plant bog. An interpretive center displays historical and archaeological exhibits. The reserve also features classrooms, picnic areas, and an auditorium with a seating capacity of 50. Reservations and guided tours are available.
