The National Portrait Gallery is a must-see when in DC. (You might even find Stephen Colbert's portrait there! LOL). Best exhibit this year? Martin Luther King!

FREE museum, open late (7pm) every day of the year. They also have a wonderful cafe area in the middle of the museum perfect for relaxing and people watching or to cool off/ warm up.

My favorite museum in the city. Always has great exhibits going on and a wonderful permanent collection. The courtyard is a great space.
