This is the predecessor of famous restaurant chain of the country, Indian Coffee House. A restaurant co-operative owned by the workers themselves, the idea conceived by Com. A K Gopalan, was planted at this location. Later the movement grown substantially even opening their restaurants in College Street (Kolkata), Connaught Place (Delhi) and several cities across the country. The Coffee House carries historical legacy, as it was one of the favorite meeting places for politicians, laureates, artistes and very common and ordinary people those visit Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala. Famous for hygienic, cheap and tasty vegetarian and non-vegetarian delicacies from typical Kerala cuisine, the Indian Coffee House is not just a restaurant, but also a place of historical importance and nostalgia.
