Gold Rush Ghost Town was main shipping point back in the day. Old brick buildings, barn, bakery, park, picture spot.
Shasta City, the lusty "Queen City" of California’s northern mining district, once stood on this site. These ruins and some of the nearby roads, cottages, and cemeteries are all silent but eloquent vestiges of the intense activity that was centered here during the California gold rush.
If you head out toward Whiskeytown lake, you will pass through a great historic area from when Old Shasta was the main town in the area (back when Redding was called "Poverty Flats"). There's some cool stuff to see, and museum activities when they are open, like Shasta State Historic Park Courthouse Museum.
