Hawthorne Gardens has a varied collection of flowering trees and shrubs, which are particularly attractive in the springtime. Dogwoods, magnolias and flower cherries extend the flowering season well into early summer. Several large ponds, frequented by waterfowl, are located at the northern edge of the gardens. Many benches provide great bird-watching opportunities. To the west of the garden, an urban forest offers an extensive trail network for a longer walk. It has a large gazebo, dry creek planting, sculptural pieces and seating areas with lots of open green space, ideal for picnics.
