Newfoundland is a beautiful province located in eastern Canada, surrounded by the mighty north Atlantic ocean. The area has different geography, climate, and cultural influences depending on location. This guide book will be limited to the province's east coast and will highlight some of the many popular attractions in the area.
The community of Quidi Vidi Village, St. John's, Newfoundland, has a population of about 14,381 people. It is one of the oldest fishing villages in North America and visits come highly recommended for those visiting eastern Newfoundland. Sheltered from the hectic pace of her parent city, St. John's, this small community offers a nostalgic step back in time sensation. Friendly residents, aesthetic views, and a culturally rich community are just a few things that you could expect to find at Quidi Vidi Village. A quaint, step back in time feel characterizes this community which traces its roots as a small fishing community. The village has friendly residents, narrow streets, roadside shops, a stone barn museum, Pinkston's forge (a blacksmith shop), the Brigus Tunnel, and the historic Hawthorne Cottage (homestead of Captain Bob Bartlett's family). Several artifacts from Bartlett's Arctic expeditions from the 20th century are on display at Hawthorne Cottage.

You can purchase locally grown fruits and vegetables, homemade jams, fresh bread, garden plants, spices, and so much more at this working farm. Kids love the farm-focused activities like horseshoes, maze walks, and carriage rides but the farm's petting barn is perhaps its most popular attraction. Among the animals onsite are an emu, alpacas, jersey cows, goats, rabbits, donkeys, miniature horses, & potbellied pigs. Staff have prepared bags of lettuce which visitors can purchase to feed the animals if they wish. Sleigh rides are available during the winter season.

Our vacation home is located in Pouch Cove, Newfoundland, a small town with a rural ambience, located just 20 minutes from St. John's. The community has a population of about 2063 people and is known for its natural beauty and small town appeal. Pouch Cove has no shopping malls, industries, or large restaurants but does have a couple of corner stores, a pharmacy, and a takeout restaurant. Outdoor enthusiasts from around the world visit the area to hike along the East Coast Trail. Whales, dolphins, icebergs, and other ocean attractions are commonly seen near the coast in season. As it is located just 20 minutes from St. John's, it encourages a quiet lifestyle while providing easy access to the busier city as needed.
