Basic needs in our immediate area
This is the nearest grocery store to us, 5 min drive or 15 min walk. You can get all food basics and there is an attached cafe for coffee/beer/wine as well as a casual vegan restaurant - by CHLOE.
How to walk there (15 min): Walk downhill to dead end culdesac of Corralitas. This is the entry to our canyon. Walk up into canyon on the dirt path, walking to the right, towards the trees. Continue past some fencing. You'll see a preschool on the left. A bit further down you'll see a staircase on your LEFT, go UP the stairs to Lake View Ave. Make a right and walk along Lake View until the fork. Take the left street of the fork, India St. India will dead end on Silver Lake Blvd. You will see the back side of the shopping center. Cross the street and head right on Silver Lake Blvd and you will see the driveway into the complex.

Really delicious coffee and pastries in a beautiful space with nice outdoor seating right on the LA River. Grab a coffee and take a walk along the river path from there over to Lewis McAdams Riverfront Park.

Parks, Hikes & Nature
Being in nature is one of the best things to do in LA. In addition to these favorites below, definitely check out the "Secret Stairs" book in the guest room. There are tons of great 'hikes' though the surrounding neighborhoods that are a work out and also just a great way to take in the local flavor.
This is the closest major park to us. You can do some beautiful, fairy easy hikes here with good views. Hike by dodger stadium. We like to park near Grace E. Simmons Lodge and hike the trails up behind there.

This is one of our family's favorite hikes. 1 mile to the waterfall and back. The waterfall looks like something you'd find in Hawaii. If it's been many months without rain, the flow less but we've never been when its dry. About a 20 min drive from our house.

People love to picnic on the grass and you'll see outdoor yoga classes before noon. The lake is filled with turtles, ducks, cranes and geese. Parking can be hard but there are also public lots off Sunset.

This is in Downtown LA (DTLA) across the street from the famous Frank Gehry designed Walt Disney Concert Hall. Across the other direction is the MOCA museum, another great spot for contemporary art. MOCA complex there is a Lemonade Cafe which is a great easy place to grab some lunch. Or walk to the Grand Central Market in under 10 min for so many great options! The broad also has a fancy restaurant Otium on its grounds.

This is a great beach to visit for a really unique Malibu vibe. A bit further drive but very Instagram worthy scenery! You park off the road and hike down a small path in the cliffs to the beach. The beach itself has beautiful caves and rock formations. You will see a lot of people doing wedding photoshoots and the like.

This beach has hands down the cleanest and best smelling bathroom facilities!!! There is a full restaurant (reserve, its popular) but they also have a cafe window for burgers, hot dogs, salads, wraps fries etc. There is a lovely pool open to the public but you must make advance reservations and pay admission but it has hotel-like amenities like lounge chairs and locker rooms.
