A bit of a trek, but worth it. You could spend a full day here exploring the different gardens.
A little farther out, but a significantly more robust experience than the Japanese Garden of Van Nuys, the Huntington Library has gardens, books, a rose tea room and plenty of eateries.
One of coolest places in Pasadena. Library has many interesting historical works ranging from the first known maps to great works of literature. The gardens are immaculate and you can do English tea here.
Amazing park like setting with galleries, botanic gardens and the new Chinese Gardens. Eateries, museum store, permanent and changing exhibitions. Library has an extensive exhibiting collection and there are lectures and music as well. Good birding too.
