South Mountain Park is 16,000 acres of beautiful desert hills. In they daytime, there are dozens of trails to hike ranging from easy to moderate difficulty. In the evening, drive to the summit and check out the sunset and the awesome view of Phoenix after dark.

Plenty of dog-friendly hiking trails and great views! Lots of variation in levels of difficulty. Sundays are foot-traffic only on the main park roads, aka "quiet days". Make sure to keep your dogs on a leash.
Largest municipal park in the US, 16,283 acres. Hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding (51 mi of trails). Can drive to top. 10409 S Central Ave. 12.8 miles from Scotty
There is tons of hiking in this area, and it provides great views of the city. (Plus it isn't as tough a climb as Camelback.)
A great place to hike with wonderful lookouts on the city. Lots of parking is always available.

“For a peaceful walk with beautiful scenery I’ve been here several times. And during part of the warmer times of the year there are so many butterflies to be seen nearby. Around the Christmas holidays they normally have live music Christmas lights and my favorite was the hot apple cider drinks.”
