For those wishing to taste authentic Hawaiian faire... this is the place. While here, check out Sunshine Arts (a gallery) just across the street. Makes for a nice 1/2 day outing :)

Most visitors don't enjoy poi, but if you have a sweet tooth try their Sweet Lady of Waiahole, warm kulolo (poi pudding) with haupia (coconut) ice cream. My favorite is the ho'io salad. Ho'io is a fern that some call the Hawaiian asparagus.

Because there's almost nothing more authentic in terms of traditional Hawaiian food. Nestled at the edge of the sacred and historic Waiahole Valley, the old Poi Factory stands by the side of the highway offering amazing traditional foods like Laulau, Pipikaula, Kalua Pork, Poke and of course the native island staple - Poi. They also offer refreshingly sweet Mamake Tea and Haupia (coconut pudding) for dessert or to quench your thirst. The market right next door offers native made apparels and home goods to bring home made in the islands.

A little far away but if you are brave enough to want to try REAL Hawaiian food - not the kind you get at a Waikiki Luau this place is legit. Not for everyone but this is about the freshest poi you can get and the laulau is delish.
