The Nasher Museum of Art is on the Duke University campus featuring galleries of Meso-American artwork; pre-Columbian, classical paintings and sculptures; African masks; contemporary pieces; photography; and much more. The museum is also a learning institution, with classes, lectures, and film series programs centered on the visual arts. After visiting the galleries, plan to have lunch at the Nasher Café in the main lobby, which features unique and artsy sandwiches, salads, and appetizers. Address: 2001 Campus Drive, Durham, North Carolina

Duke University’s art museum, the Nasher is set in the woods just outside the main body of campus and has a series of rotating shows in addition to selections from the permanent collection on display. The cafe within the Museum is very good!

The Nasher is a wonderful museum to visit. The museum’s collection strategy emphasizes works by diverse artists who have been historically underrepresented, or even excluded, by mainstream arts institutions, and maintains a particular focus on artists of African descent. Other strengths in the collection include European medieval art, European and American paintings, Outsider art, classical antiquities, African art and ancient American art. The Nasher Museum Café is great for a quick lunch on weekdays & brunch on the weekend. They also offer some great family programming. Check their website for details.
