The amphitheater at Siena's Fortezza Medicea hosts open-air cinema in summer. It's wonderfully romantic and the films are often great classics. Just take warm clothes - even in mid-summer it's chilly up there.

Built by order of Cosimo de' Medici in 1563, this fortified brick castle was decommissioned as a military barracks in the late-18th century and converted into a public park. It's now a popular leisure facility where locals come to relax in the garden, jog around the perimeter or meet friends for an aperitivo at Enoteca Italiana in the dungeons. There are panoramic city views from the ramparts and bastions.

During summertime, enjoy a a drink in the bar at the top of the fortress. Lots of events and cinema screenings take place from the end of June till the end of August.
