The word has gotten out about the Algarve’s best-kept secret. Praia Amoreira, a once local’s only favorite, was recently named “The Perfect Beach” by The Times UK, who went as far to call this beauty “The Best Beach in Europe.” Amoreira beach is a blissful escape from the normal Algarve crowds, and…

One of our favorite beaches with a deep river flowing into the sea, a small cafe for a little snack and pretty views. It is also a good starting point for walks on the Rota Vicentina.

Surf when the wind is forecasted light as can be wind affected. A couple of nice restaurants either side of the beach. Becareful of currents especially at the edges of the beach near the rocks and the river mouth. If you are not sure talk with the beach lifeguard. Sit further up the river can be…

Mediterranean Restaurant
“With a toes in the sand location on Monte Clérigo beach, O Sargo isn’t just the winner for best location of any restaurant in Aljezur – this ocean-front joint also serves incredible seafood, creamy risottos and contemporary concoctions to make your taste buds smile. Enjoy with a glass of wine on the outdoor patio (there are heaters for the shoulder seasons), or in the cozy indoor space while the waves crash below. O Sargo hosts live music regularly during the summer, and is a frequent site for weddings, so keep onto their facebook page for events and closings due to private parties.”

Bistro
“This contemporary Mediterranean restaurant is located 8km out of town on the road towards Lagos, but the ever-packed parking lot will tip you off to Gulli Bistro’s excellent reputation. Gulli’s serves innovative Mediterranean dishes using high-quality, locally sourced ingredients. Make a reservation and put on a nice shirt – Gulli’s may look like any other Portuguese restaurant from the outside, but inside it’s got a contemporary decor and the high-quality service fitting of a high-end eatery. Families might opt for the spacious outdoor balcony where kids have space to play before the food arrives.”

Café
“Just north of Aljezur proper is the small town of Rogil, with one standout café – Pão de Rogil. Potentially the only modern-looking establishment in town, Pão de Rogil could easily be located in Lisbon, with it’s contemporary design and menu. The baked goods however, are all handmade with love and care at this locally owned-and-operated bakery, which beyond serving delicious toasties and addictive cookies, sells fresh loaves of rustic bread that can be purchased in house or at supermarkets around the area.”
