Located in the town of Sibonga around 2.5 hours from Cebu City, this one-of-a-kind shrine is one of the most visited churches in the region and is a staple in a Cebu pilgrimage tour. Known as the Safe Sanctuary of Mother Mary, the Simala Shrine has beautiful structures and spacious gardens. It also houses several religious things inside and outside the church for devotees, including a massive statue of the Virgin Mary that is said to be miraculous. To avoid the crowd, go there from Monday to Thursday. Make sure to bring food and water, as well as sun protection (e.g., hats, umbrella).

This looks like a huge castle from afar, but it is really a religious shrine dedicated to the Mother of the Church: The Virgin Mary. Everyday thousands of people flock here to say a prayer or two and request for petitions. Inside the shrine, you will find walls lined up with glass drawers filled with testimonies of people whose prayers have been heard and answered. Definitely a must visit, even if you are not religious.

Simala Shrine or Simala Church is located in the south of Cebu. The monastery was built in 1998 by the Marian Monks from Pampanga. It used to be just an ordinary church until after the incidents of miraculous events. One of which is the shedding of tears of the Mother Mary’s image. It paved the way for the shrine’s popularity with devotees constantly flocking the area. Today you can see the beautiful improvements of this monastery and how devotees love to visit the area to do their prayers and appreciate its stunning architectural design.
