In the month of June in 1704 Kongsberg received a royal visit which would leave its permanent mark on the town, creating a tradition that still lives on to this very day. King Frederik IV, whom reigned over both Denmark and Norway, came to Kongsberg and requested that his royal monogram be carved into the mountainside. Since that day all royal visits to Kongsberg, both past and present, have been commemorated by the visitor’s royal monograms being carved into the mountain wall. The location today is called “Kronene i Håvet” The “Kronene i Håvet” is quite an impressive sight, and is located very close to the town centre.
