Adjacent to the current town hall, the Gardens of Mlle de la Valliere recall love affairs: the castle would have sheltered the loves of the young woman & Louis XIV, which she was once the favorite. She lived here between 1661 & 1670, prior to renounce the world and enter the Carmelites. The design of the green spaces of the castle was entrusted to Le Nôtre who himself asked his nephew Desgoffes to take care of the ordering of the gardens. Today, French savoir-faire is still being detected in the development of gardens: basins & landings are drawing deep perspectives, rushing towards the Seine below. The charm of the place hoisted it to the status of "most beautiful gardens in France".
