The legendary bakery started in Paris in 1932 and now has an outlet in Belgravia, where you can pick up one of their famous sourdoughs. I also love the Viennese pastries. Lionel Poilâne has been hugely influential to bakers worldwide. He combines the best of old and new techniques and calls it “retro-innovation.” If you’re in Chelsea, check out their branch there, where you can order light meals from the cuisine de bar.

This is the genuine thing. It really is the London branch of a famous French bakery. They make rye bread the classic way. They use a wood fired oven (allegedly the first in London since the great fire!). Totally classy, totally awesome. Come here, buy a complete round loaf ("un pain s'il vous plait"). Die happy - and if you live it will feed a family for 3 days.
