<5 hours Aptly named “Switzerland of America” with its perfect location in the heart of the San Juan Mountains, Ouray is one of the more picturesque Colorado mountain towns to visit. Jagged snow-capped peaks rise high above the tiny town; where beautiful Victorian buildings and houses dot the streets. Home to natural hot springs, Ouray is also the perfect place to soak up the scenery and the sun all in one place. Popular activities in the area include scenic hiking and biking, plus a large number of visitors make the trek out to Ouray every winter in January for the popular ice climbing competition at Ouray Ice Park.

Another fun, historic Colorado town. Ouray is located 45 minutes south of Montrose and is known for their amazing hot springs swimming pool and many jeeping and 4x4 trails. They also have many beautiful hiking trails, great restaurants and fun shops you should visit. The visitor's center offers lots of great suggestions. We love the perimeter tail, a hiking trail that can be accessed from many different points in town. In the winter be sure to check out the ice climbers at the end of town. Box Canyon Waterfall is also a fun place to visit.

Ouray is just beyond Silverton to the north and accessed by crossing over Red Mountain Pass via the "Million Dollar Highway". Many travelers believe that the highway was named after the million dollar views or becuase you need a $1M insurance policy to drive over it, but legend has it cost a million dollars per mile to build in the 1920s, and that its fill dirt contains a million dollars in gold ore.
