Prehistoric cave with amazing paintings which are over 29,000 years old. Booking essential One hour drive, very highly recommended. very close to Saint Cirq lapopie.

The images in this cave are some 27,000 years old. Pech Merle is one of the major prehistoric sites in S.W. France. It is an hour and a half drive to the site from Montcabrier. You should combine Pech Merle with a visit to St. Cirq Lapopie nearby.

one of the last open caves w/original paintings. See a 10,000 y.o. adolescent foot print preserved in mud! Museum has a great movie and loads of info - worth seeing before you go in to the caves. Make a reservation on line for an English Speaking tour!

This is an iconic cave in that it is original and not a copy. It is forty minutes drive from Lario Grange maybe fifty. There are beautiful paintings inside it that date back some 25,000 years and some beautiful geological features like huge discs of calcite made by a high pressure of water squeezing through the tiniest crack. It is so majestic and it has not been tackified by tourism. The Célé valley which is nearby has excellent canoeing kayaking for families and this is highly recommended. The river is very shallow. The surroundings are stunning.
