We are three blocks from the trail that connects Arlington. It can take you into DC, Mt Vernon, or out to Loudoun vineyards.

Flat running and bike path great for kids and adults. Links several parks together so makes for a fun day of exploring outdoors.

The W&OD trail is an easy trail that you can ride sportive and fast or relaxed with a family. It goes through pretty nature and charming citycenters where you can stop and have a coffee. Starting in Shirlington today I went through Arlington, Falls Church, Fairfax, Vienna to visit a friend in Reston. The way back took me just 90 minutes going between 16 and 18 miles per hour.

6.5 miles away. Often called the skinniest park in Virginia, Washington & Old Dominion (W&OD) Railroad Regional Park
is a paved trail between Shirlington and Purcellville, Virginia. Run, cycle or skate the 45-mile route along the former roadbed of the Washington & Old Dominion Railroad, which runs through the urban heartland and into the Virginia countryside. Equestrians can ride the adjacent 32-mile gravel horse trail. The W&OD trail has multiple parking areas, enabling you to jump on and off the trail at various points.

Probably the best-known trail in the county, this 45-mile park – the narrowest in Virginia – runs from Sterling in the east to Purcellville out west on the bed of the old Washington & Old Dominion Railroad. While you can horseback ride it in sections, it’s best for cycling or hiking, particularly the flat stretch between Hamilton and Purcellville, beautiful farm fields all around. It's a long, paved trail that's extremely popular on weekends for runners, bikers, walkers and strollers.
