This important site dates back to the 13th century. An archeological site excavating the mounds of local Native American Tribes, this beautiful park boasts numerous hiking trails, old bridges and water wheels from historic and long-forgotten processing plants, streams, beautiful foliage, and more.

Indian mounds. Amazing.Amazingly close. Bike, (long) walk, or go by car to back entrance, take fabulous hike through woods that feel like North Carolina to me. Then you're in the state park (free admission). Good visitor area, picnic area, and accessible mounds. Amazing.

Native American culture and history. "More than eight centuries ago, a mound-building culture inhabited the thickly forested area around Lake Jackson, just north of Tallahassee. The Lake Jackson Mounds Site encompasses six earthen temple mounds and one burial mound. "
