The color really pops at the Electronic Superhighway, a hybrid art installation-U.S. map with its own closed-circuit television feed at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. A popular pic is to stand staring up pensively into the neon abyss.
My favorite installation is called The Throne of the Third Heaven of the Nations' Millennium General Assembly. It is called "America's greatest work of visionary art." I am always amazed by what I see.
Finally a day without responsibilities I took the bus (16c,g or h) to the next metro station and the yellow line to DC. Got out at "Archives" and strolled down Pensylvania Avenue to the "Newseum". Took a left there and passed several DC courthouses. I found my way to the SAAS, passing the Shakepeare…
This free Smithsonian museum is in the heart of Gallery Place. It has a beautiful courtyard where you can sit and rest. The art is terrific. It is open 11:30 am to 7 pm. You can go there at the end of the day after other museums close.
This museum has fun modern art that kids love to look at. It's connected to the nation portrait gallery. There is a great atriumm where you can grab lunch or bring a picnic.
