Soak up the atmosphere of this stunningly landscaped garden and unique homestead. Tūpare has recently earned the NZ Gardens Trust highest six-star rating - a distinction shared only by 13 other locations nationally. A peaceful and beautiful setting to walk around, you can visit the homestead and have high tea at The Chapman-Taylor house Tūpare’s distinctive Chapman-Taylor designed house is a great example of the Arts & Crafts style of architecture. The Friends of Tūpare host free public tours at 11am on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays from October to March. Group tours at other times can be organised on request.

I love this garden and we go picnic there often. There is a lovely seating area down by the Waiwhakaiho river with free-to-use gas barbeques. There is also a lovely swimming spot in the river. Tūpare is a former family home in the Arts & Crafts / Tudor style surrounded by a 3.6 ha park / garden. The lovely house is often opened up for visitors - check the website for dates.

This is by far the most beautiful garden that I think is a hidden gem. Tūpare is a premier landscaped garden with a unique homestead, originally developed by Sir Russell Matthews and his family from 1932. Everything about this place is a dream, no matter what time of year you go. The most beautiful cottage (original) is there surrounded by a tennis court. If you're lucky you maybe able to go inside the cottage and learn more. Down the hill is the river where you can go swimming and then enjoy a bbq in the gardens where the facilities are excellent.
