Mount Elbert is the highest point in the State of Colorado, at 14,421 feet. Trailhead entrance is just outside the town of Leadville.
It's the tallest mountain in Colorado, and the 2nd tallest in the contiguous U.S. Not for the feint of heart. Black Clouds trailhead is 1.3 miles from our cabin, or the other trailheads are about 10 minutes away.
Mount Elbert is a great (not very difficult but may be crowded) hike to the highest point in Colorado. It is located just outside of town and easily accessible (no 4WD needed in summer months).
Do a 14er while your here...make sure you are acclimated and doing ok with the elevation. Always hike a 14er with the mentality that you will get as far as you can and enjoy the views. If you do make it to the top well that's a bonus! Strenuous but an amazing experience. Requires an early start…

“A local favorite! If you enjoy steak, Quincy's is a must visit. The menu is small (filet Sundays through Thursdays and prime rib Fridays and Saturdays and veggie lasagna daily; comes with bread, a wedge salad, and baked potato). Also has tasty deserts and great drinks! The best part is that you cannot beat the price!”
