The Art Gallery is situated in a beautiful part of Newcastle, just off Darby Street, which is a great street to wander down to shop at boutiques, and has an amazing selection of cafes and restaurants. The art gallery is a wonderful gallery which houses many amazing art collections, including works of John Olsen. A Brett Whitely sculpture, Black Totem 11, graces the entrance to the gallery. The building is situated next to the Newcastle City Library, which is worth a visit and houses a local history section and its own separate galleries. Opposite these two iconic buildings is Civic Park where you will see the Captain James Cook Memorial Fountain.
