Husfjellet is one of several popular hikes at Senja. 4 hours (round trip). Nice trail, steep at the end. Spectacular 360 degree views from the top of Husfjellet. See other hikes on this web page http://www.senjavandrer.no/middels.html On your hikes It is smart to bring mosquito spray and clothing covering the body, as both the mosquito and the bowl can be troublesome on the first part of the trip. Beside bringing something to drink, it's really nice to have a simple meal on your way up or at the top.

Arts & Culture

Skaland Graphite "verk" at Senja was one of the major industrial riots in Troms in the first part of the 20th century and the only active mining in the county today. Skaland was also Northern Europe's only graphite extraction for a period. This large business obviously needed a lot of power, and in 1919 the power plant in Bergsbotn finished and produced 450 kWh, which also benefited the settlements. Although the graphite "verk"went bankrupt and broke down for 10 years, the power plant continued to produce electricity until 1947. A violent rainfall led to dust breaking and the power station was flushed away by the 40 million cubic meters of water flowing downwards.

A small museum at Øverbotn at Senja provides cultural and natural history at Senja and in Ånderdalen National Park. The exhibition tells you about a conserved Mark Sami living space; Gammelgrinda (The Old Grind) from the "Nikolai gamma" (Sami gamma where Nikolai lived) in Kaperdalen, a nice small trip from the road. It is also a good chance that you will meet reindeer (often on the road) on your way to see this.

See https://no.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hus%C3%B8y_(Senja). Due to the very hard weather on the outside of Senja, the oldest houses are fought to the ground. The proximity to the fishing grounds and the absence of racial hazards are two of the reasons that people have chosen to settle on this small island. The fish company is currently operating well and Husøy has had a positive population development in recent years. At Husøya there are a grocery store and cafe. The place received national attention in connection with TV 2's drama when the ladies left in 2

Drinks & Nightlife

Pila Pub&kultur is a great cafe and bar, which is open at least on Saturdays. Cafes during the day, with delicious homemade baguettes, cakes and often a soup. Saturday night is the open bar, happy with live music, and you will meet open and lively people from Senja who are looking and enjoying themselves. Werner Enoksen will most likely be there.

Food Scene

Open only summertime; https://www.facebook.com/Draugen-Kro-Bar-260889638007183/ Check if it is open. The reason to visit here is the Pizza, which is absolutely amazing. When you drive through Kaperdalen, it's worth to drive to see the small places along the coast, all the way to Kaldfarnes. You will then pass Medby, where Draugen Kro&Bar sometimes is open (It's connected to Senja havfiskesenter, where you also can rent boats).
