The Rosenborg Castle is an old castle in the center of Copenhagen. The castle was originally build as an arbor for Christian IV 1606-1607 in a park, Kings Garden, outside the city. Today the castle is surrounded by the city and is worth an inside visit if you like jewelry, fairy tales and history as I do.

Parks & Nature
Kings Garden is one of Copenhagens many parks. It was founded in 1606 by Christian IV, who wanted an arbor and a garden to produce flowers, fruits and vegetables for the royal court. Today the park is well visited by all citizens; families, young people, old couples who want to go for a walk, play or rest. As the park is situated very close to my home, I see it as "my" garden and my two sons have their daily walk through it to school. Remember to bring a blanket to sit on if it is spring or summer. And enjoy the castle from the outside or make a visit to the inside.

The King's Garden

Torvehallerne is a market hall and here you can find fresh organic fruit and vegetables, as well as delicacies from different places in Europe such as good Italian pizzas, French duck and mustard baguette sandwiches, Spanish tapas and a sushi bar. You can also find a Danish sandwich shop which sells small traditional open sandwiches (smørrebrød), ice cream, as well as a number of little bars where you can have a light meal, beer, glass of wine or coffee. In the Llama Bar you can have Latin- and South American cocktails and drinks from pisco sours to mescal and tequila. It is not a cheap experience, so look at the website to get more information. The restaurant is known for their tiles on walls and floors and the atmosphere is very relaxed. Definitely nice food and much more than a restaurant.

Since 1877 Schønnemann has been serving herring, beer and snaps. In the old days the farmers from the province came here to have good beer, danish snaps and something to eat after being to the market. They tied their horses on Hauser Plads and went to the restaurant.
