Food Scene

Simply the best cafe in Bath! Independently-owned with gorgeous coffee, cakes and Sicilian specialities, the menu is mostly made in-house and includes local produce wherever possible. Roscoff's is compact in size, but there are tables upstairs so even when it looks busy, ask one of the lovely staff if they can accommodate you. The arancini, the prosciutto and potato cakes with poached eggs, and the Italian hot chocolate are not to be missed!

Head to the larger Bath outpost of BTP (the other is on Kingsmead Square) on the way to the Circus or the Royal Crescent. You can get a coffee (all their beans are roasted in neighbouring Bristol) to take away, or sit in the relaxed and airy dining room for an excellent brunch.

Seriously good Indian food in a refined setting. (Don't be fooled by the restaurant exterior! The menu and service are both truly exceptional, so it's worth making the booking.)

A restored chapel with arching ceilings, an elegant atmosphere, and delicious Italian food. Pop in for a Bellini (2 for 1 from noon to 7pm everyday), and some freshly fried calamari, or go big with a steak or the smoked haddock risotto. Aqua has been a firm favourite for birthdays and special occasions ever since we moved to Bath.

Entertainment & Activities

This miniature outpost of Picturehouse Cinemas is beloved by locals not only for the brilliantly curated selection of indie and mainstream films, but also for its own place in history. Haile Selassie, the exiled emperor of Ethiopia, used to visit to watch newsreels of the invasion of his country by Italian troops during the 1930's. The balcony (complete with sofas available to book) still bears his name. In 2009, the cinema was also immortalised in Wes Anderson's film, The Fantastic Mr Fox. It's a blink and you'll miss it moment, but a proud one for Bathonians!
