Its Michelin starred. We are saving it for special occasions. It also has a cafe at the back next to the visitors' centre for the four Cathar castles at Lastours. We have lunch their every time we take friends and family to visit Lastours. Never had a bad meal and sometimes chef tries out new dishes for his main restaurant. Michelin starred food for plat de jour prices!

Excellent covered market selling a huge range of produce. It also has wine and snack bars. Visit on Sunday morning (less traffic, easier to park and there is a large adjacent street market.

Built 100 years before the canal system in England to bypass "the pirates at Gibraltar", it is a UNESCO world heritage site. The staircase of 9 locks is a world heritage site and cruises are available to experience the locks. The canal is normally closed for repair between November and March

Most Cathar castles were build on seemingly inaccessible mountain tops - spectacular but you are unlikely to be able to drive to the gate. Visiting these castles will take perhaps 90 minutes and involve climbing several flights of stone stairs and following a path that snakes up the hillside through a cave. Lots of wildflowers in spring and summer.
