Great coffee, unusual and tasty menu and a lovely little outdoor area
Slow cooked meats and absinth bar. This local restaurant and bar has three areas; a restaurant/dining room (best to book a head for a table), the indoor bar area and the outdoor beer garden. The two brothers that own Le Bon Ton are from New Mexico and have been doing some great things in the Melbourne food scene for quite a few years. Even if you don't make it here for the food (we're talking beef brisket sandwiches, fried chicken, oysters and chicken wings) they have an excellent cocktail list. The bar is also open on Friday and Saturday nights until 6am (not a club, just a bar) with their bar menu serving until late as well.

Au79 is the chemical symbol for gold and this cafe doesn't disappoint. While I'm getting too old to line up for bars, I will happily line up for this cafe. To avoid the cues though, try mid week or before 9am on the weekends. It's a huge space with an abundance of indoor plants and soft pastel colours. I don't think I've ever had anything bad on the menu. Each dish is expertly prepared and comes out looking a little like a piece of art. Fantastic coffee as well.

Located in the old Denton Mills building, I would recommend getting in early (before 9am) if you dont want to wait for a table. However, it's worth the wait! Generous sized breakfasts, great coffees and a varied menu will mean you're not disappointed.

There are so many coffee shops in the area, but this one is one of my favourites. The coffee machine is located in an old combi van inside this old warehouse conversion.

Drinks & Nightlife

Excellent pizzas and a huge variety of beers and wines to choose from. This little bar has only been open a year or two and is a lot of fun. It's a converted warehouse, with lots of indoor plants and soft lighting. Great way to spend a quiet evening close to home.

Located on iconic Brunswick Street, I always recommend my international friends to check this place out. The pintxos and vodka bar is located downstairs. Upstairs is the bar known as Naked in the Sky which has some of the best views of Melbourne from the rooftop. Come and learn a bit of Melbourne history while enjoying a sunny afternoon.

The fox has a lovely rooftop area which is great to those warm Melbourne nights. Plenty of beers on tap, many vegetarian and vegan options and a pool table makes this a fun place.

Parks & Nature

Located a short walk from the apartment, the Collingwood Children's Farm is a fun activity for adults and children. You have to pay entry, however there is also a free walking path through the farm and a cafe if you are just exploring the area

Brunswick Street is a 15 minute walk from the apartment (walk up via Gertrude Street, where lots of interesting, local designer shops are as well). There is an excellent mix of clothes, local designers, homewares and restaurants and cafes.
