Food Scene

Food is amazing and price is very reasonable for the quality. Be prepared for a wait 45 minutes or more for an order. Or call ahead for a take out order to skip ahead.

Great quality take-out Mexican food right in Manoa. Its about as good as it gets in Hawaii for Mexican food. They also have one in Waiminalo if you are going to Bellows on the weekend.

Gourmet food to go.... a great alternative to Whole Foods. And if you are there don't miss the amazing blueberry and cream cheese scones. They are soft and unlike any scone I've ever had before. They also have an amazing Okinawan sweet potateo and haupia desert.

If you like Ahi or Salmon Poke bowls, this is a place you can't miss. Even though it proclaims to be a coffee shop, this place has some of the best food on the island and you'll see its not a secret with the lines out the front door. Here is a secret, however, go next door to the Island Vintage Organic store and you can order food at that counter too (and skip the long line). Finding a seat will be a challenge.

Great food, great views and make sure to get a reservation here plus a reservation for pre-dinner drinks at the Sky Bar directly below. If you decide to eat there - the burger and chicken sliders are some of the best items on the menu.

No need to drive all the way to the North Shore to get great shaved ice. Go to Waiola street. There is a parking lot on the west side of the building. Its painted bright blue so you can't miss it. The line goes quickly if you know how to order (read the directions next to the window... I think it is, 1. how many, 2. what size, 3. what flavors. "Rainbow" is popular, my favorites are milk tea and coconut.

Parks & Nature

Hands down one of the best places for kiddos but you need to know its only open noon on Friday until end of day on Sunday. Make sure to drive all the way to the 2nd guard shack. You won't be able to drive thru the 2nd guard but you can park right next to it and tell them you are headed to the beach. Then walk to your left until you get to where the river mouth enters the ocean. This is usually very shallow and very kid friendly. For bathrooms and showers you'll need to drive back toward the exit and you'll see them on your left where most people are enjoying the beach.

This can get a bit crowded on weekends, but during the week hardly anyone is here and it is great for little kids as the tide pools are sandy and big enough to swim in.

Yup it is one of the few hikes on Oahu that ends with a waterfall and it is within walking distance of our place. If you have toddler, make sure to use our hiking pack just in case you hear "I'm tired of walking."

Looking for something like Waikiki but less crowded? Check out this beach.. and if you want an even more secluded beach don't take the left and go further West on the main road. You'll see campsites you can park at for the day. You may run into people camping permanently (FYI).

Absolutely beautiful but you will be driving through one of the most economically depressed parts of the island on the way.

Entertainment & Activities

This is the nicest one in town and often crowded but Tuesdays is their discount day... I think $7 -$13 /ticket depending on screen type. (https://www.consolidatedtheatres.com/ward/special-values)

Great theatre because it isn't crowded (usually) but there isn't much near this except for Costco, Lowes and Home Depot... oh, and 1 restaurant we really like (La Tour Cafe). Go here if you want to avoid movie crowds. I think they have cheap Tuesdays as well.
