One of our faves, a fun pizza parlor/brewpub. Enjoy a tasty beer in their expansive beer garden. Sandwiches, salads. Kitchen closes at 11, bar at 12 pm. Beer & wine only. Live free music most evenings and on Sunday afternoons at 4. From ABGB: Our philosophy is Beer Makes It Better. We believe our beer has the power to make everything better. A fresh, hot pizza. A nice big Muffaletta sandwich. A great band on Saturday night. And hanging out in the shade of our beer garden with your pup, friends, and fellow Austinites. Website: http://theabgb.com/

The most well-known party-street in Austin is still 6th Street, but in recent years Rainey Street has given it a run for its money. There are a plethora of older homes that have been turned into bars, and most of them have great outdoor patios. There are also several really great dining options in the neighborhood as well, including food truck-turned-restaurant Garaj Ma'hal, a local Austin favorite. Its a bit more of your late 20s - 30s demographic so it can be a nice time for those of us that are done with college party days (aka 'dirty 6th street').

This place is a must! It is a locally owned Coffee and Craft Brew Bar. Named Austin Chronicle "Best New Bar 2014" and Zagat's "12 Hottest New Beer Bars in the US."It is right down the street walk/bike/ride. Great for coffee in the morning or a refreshing beer/wine the the afternoon or evening. Gorgeous patio and the two food trucks are on point. The Veracruz Taco Truck is said to be the best tacos in South Central Austin!

Nice hangout for some southern cooking and large selection of draft beer. You can pitch some washers outside, and check out the view of the greenbelt from the open air patio on the top floor. All their food is delsih and their burgers have won awards! Gluten free options available! http://www.redsporch.com/

Mexican food here is great. #1 in Austin and one of the oldest. You must try the Chile rellenos at Matt's topped with pecans, raisins, and sour cream! Try a Bob Armstrong dip too! And everything about their margaritas are heaven, don't leave without trying one - or two! Website: http://mattselrancho.com/

You actually will not believe this place - everything is served with a donut, even the burgers! I prefer to come here when I am in need of an amazing craft cocktail or I am having a sweet tooth. You just must check this place out for yourself! And the ambiance is so cute - barnyard chic! Website: http://gourdoughs.com/

Tacos are a big deal in Austin and this is one of the most popular places to go due to the fun taco names & interesting flavors. President Obama ate at Torchy's during his March 2016 visit. It was the town talk for months! Website: http://torchystacos.com/

Strange Brew is a 24 hour coffee house/live music venue. It has some of the best acoustics in Austin. This is a little spot where you are guaranteed to see some great live music. Awesome, cozy music venue attached to the coffee shop. Plenty of parking and plenty of seating inside. Website: http://www.strangebrewaustin.com/

Parks & Nature

You. Must. Go. You can bike to the spring from the paths, have a day swimming and then head back on the other side of the Lady Bird Lake, perhaps heading up South Congress for shopping or food. More deets: Within Zilker Park's 358 acres lies one of the crown jewels of Austin - Barton Springs Pool. The pool itself measures three acres in size, and is fed from underground springs with an average temperature of 68-70 degrees, ideal for year-round swimming. Over the years, Barton Springs Pool has drawn people from all walks of life, from legislators who have concocted state laws there to free-spirited, topless sunbathers who turned heads in the 1970s.

Zilker Park is known as the crown jewel of the Austin parks system. It is named for Andrew Jackson Zilker. Mr. Zilker came to Austin in 1876 to become a business man and a banker. He operated one of Austin’s first ice factories and was elected an Alderman. He also ranched a 40 acre spread with good water southwest of town. In three separate gifts in 1918, 1923, and 1931, Mr. Zilker gave his ranch, which included what is now known as Barton Springs, to the city in a way that benefitted the community and the schools. Zilker made a final gift to the city in 1934, the site of what is now the Girl Scout Clubhouse. That same year the park was officially named Zilker Park.

Sightseeing

South Congress lacks the polish of Congress north of the Colorado and some of the downtown shopping districts. What makes it is the collection of eclectic stores, cafes, restaurants and food truck. Here you will find a genuine country western wear store (Allens Boots), one of Austin's most storied rock and roll clubs (The Continental), funky accommodations (Hotel San Jose) and great eats (Hopdoddy Burger Bar). It's definitely worth visiting and you can wander the six blocks or so in an hour.

Entertainment & Activities

You really need to catch a show at The Continental Club. The granddaddy of all local music venues, Rockin South Austin Since 1955, the legendary Continental Club celebrates over 60 years as one the oldest continuously running clubs in all of Austin. It started out as a swanky supper club, then became Austin's first burlesque club and later became a working man's blue collar bar on South Congress that opened every morning at 7am and eventually grew into one of the premier live music venues. Getting Around

Honestly this is one of the best ways to get around town. You can sign up for a membership in seconds and then locate your car from the app. Find your car and then drive to your destination. You can leave the car in any Car2Go designated area (there are so many of them and they open special ones during festivals). Super cheap vs doing a ride share like Fasten or Ride Austin.
