Sightseeing

Renowned as the southernmost point in the United States and the likely place where the first Polynesians reached the Hawaiian Islands, South Point is in a National Historic District Landmark area. Ruins of Heiaus (temples), fishing shrines, and ancient canoe moorings are still present here. There is an epic cliff jump into the crystal clear waters complete with tall ladder for climbing back up! Only do the jump if you see others, as the currents can be fierce sometimes. Also a beautiful place to go and watch the sunset. Snorkeling the crystal clear waters can also be done. We DO NOT recommend jumping into the cave. It is dangerous and we have seen people get injured.

Parks & Nature

Papakolea (Green Sand) Beach (12 min drive, then 45-60 min hike or quick drive in 4wd w/ clearance) On the top 10 things you should do in big island! A geologic oddity among few in the world, a green sand beach is located in a bay cut by the ocean into a side of Puʻu Mahana, a cinder cone that erupted about 50,000 years ago. The green sand is created by a common silicate deposit of Big Island lava called olivine, which stays deposited on this beach because it is heavier than the other, lighter components of the lava. Make sure you bring plenty of water, sunscreen and wear good shoes if hiking in :) We recommend starting early for this adventure! *Bring plenty of water and snacks

Easily the top attraction on the Big Island! Fun to visit in the daytime when you can see the steam pouring out, but "not to miss" at night when you can sometimes see the orange glow and the hot molten lava glowing! Check out Thurston Lave Tube and do not miss the drive down chain of craters rd.

Punalu’u Black Sand Beach is the largest and most accessible black sand beach on the Big Island. Great places to picnic, (there is a restroom) relax and watch the Honu (Hawaiian Green Hawks Bill Sea turtle) sunbathe on the black sand. Be sure to keep your distance from the turtles (they are an endangered species) and do not take any of the black sand. Enjoy this tranquil place and incredible ocean views.

Snorkeling “Two Steps” leads you into an underwater paradise. Located on Honaunau Bay, famously known as “place of Refuge,” a historical village with a $5.00 parking fee. If you opt not to see the village, next door is “Two Step,” a popular diving and snorkel destination, with a boat ramp. The bay is hailed by many to be the best shore snorkeling and diving in the entire state of Hawaii with deep clear water. For those who enter the water at the notorious Two Step rocks, you will enter into deep blue ocean very quickly ranging in depth from 3 to 30 meters. The bay is well known for dolphin encounters and other friendly marine mammals.
