A Norman ruin right opposite the cottage, with plenty of grass for either children to run off some steam, and also popular for dog walking! Absolutely beautiful scene of Mumbles from here as you look down at the village and sea. In the summer there may be events held here - check out online via the swansea council website (sorry unable to upload link).

Beaches

This is a world famous beach that regularly ales the top ten lists in the UK. Unusual for its three prongs of cliffs that cut through the huge beach, it has the most spectacular scenery on Gower. You can park in Parkmill and walk through the the woods, along the river which snakes through the marshes dotted with wild ponies and cows. On the left hand side of the valley you will pass Pennard castle a ruin from Gower’s Norman past. The river then snakes around the bay on an Oxbow, so take off you shoes and wade through! This is a walk and beach to remember.

One of the longest beaches in the UK. Great for a day at the beach with kids. You can learn to surf here in the smaller waves in the centre of the beach or more experienced surfers can brave the paddle out and surf the furthest right spot called Peaks. There is pay parking in the campsite, a cafe and a small shop. We recommend stopping at the Kings Head pub in the Llangennith village after a windswept day at the beach. Good pub food and a drink out the front of the pub whilst the sun goes down is a perfect end to the day. Hide

About a half hour drive from the cottage. You have to pay for parking (used to be cash only but this may have changed!). There is a great watersports centre here or take a boat out around the Gower - be warned - you will have to wade into the sea first! There is a hotel here where you can get lunch / drinks (The Oxwich Bay Hotel) or for something more special book The Beach House - a Michelin Star and 3 AA Rosettes restaurant which is literally on the beach.

You must visit the beach which is only a 5 min drive away! Perfect for a day at the beach, an early morning dip, a surf or a windswept walk in the winter, Langland couldn’t be closer to you. It has a great Golf Course, and lovely restaurant (Langland Brasserie) for a coffee and cake or a meal, plus a beautiful costal walk where you can walk the headland for literally miles!

Food scene

We love this cute little coffee shop on a back street of Mumbles village. Expect to see locals with their dogs sitting outside enjoying a great coffee and a local pastry. If you are here on a Saturday, we recommend picking up a fresh Gower Donut which are only delivered on Saturdays, delicious!

The big sister coffee shop to little Microlot. You can find this popular shop in Mumbles arcade, which has local bakers, butchers and amongst other independent shops. This coffee shop has lots of seating, good coffee and pastries.

You can find this Brasserie just in front of the footpath / car park along Langland beach. This is a popular spot to sit for a morning coffee and watch the surf, have an alfresco lunch in the summer whilst enjoying a day at the beach or to share a cold drink in the evening while the sunsets over the bay. We recommend you check out opening times and bookings before your visit as it can get busy during summer months

A mumbles pub with a great chef who specialises in seafood. Positioned just back from Mumbles promenade with views of the sea, you can expect a varied menu which reflects local and seasonal ingredients as well as fresh fish special and tapas in the evening.

Joe’s Ice Cream Parlour is a Swansea institution. Their ice cream is even sold in Harrods. Expect big, but fast moving queues for a takeaway ice cream in the summer. Our tip, locals always choose the traditional vanilla flavour, it’s the best!

An Italian cafe/restaurant/ice cream parlour. The venue is in a great position right on the promenade pointing out into the sea. Very busy in the summer and I personally prefer Joe's Ice cream. However, there is lots of seating so even if you have to wait you should be able to get a table in or out. Stop off for a takeaway ice cream, an Italian lunch or dinner or a coffee and pastry.

The close proximity to Oystermouth Castle and grounds

For the cottage: We have had our main back garden converted into 2 parking spaces leaving a patio at the back of the house. The patio has a sofa, chairs and table. If you want a grass area for either children to play or to walk dogs, this is provided literally across the road by the grounds of Oystermouth Castle. Mumbles very own ancient ruins of a Norman castle!
