Behind the house (turn right out of the house and right at the corner) you will find entry onto the Southern walkway (PINK SIGNS- the walks up through the bush are not too strenuous inter-connecting tracks. The 1st PINK sign is about 10min follow these they will take you right through to Oriental Parade, up to Mount Victoria lookout or cut down Marjoriebanks st and head into Cuba street area. The filming of The Lord of the Rings trilogy happened up here and there are several discreet signs. Apparently this was the location where the Hobbits hid while being chased by Ringwraiths. If you turn left out of the house walk to the end of Coromandel st and walk this way to the ocean-Houghton Bay.

In a southerly the Oriental Bay is protected an has a small sandy beach, you can swim out to the pontoon or do some jumping off the end of the pier. If you're lucky enough you might get to see a passing orca or two, a stingray or a pod of dolphins.
