These are just some of the places we've been to and can personally recommend. It is important to be aware that French restaurants usually open only of a lunchtime and then close at 14.00 hours (2pm) and reopen at 19.00 hours (7pm). In the bigger cities some may be found open all day but this is an exception.
It does great steaks. If you are vegetarian you will not be catered for here, we've tried and their idea of vegetarian was a well done beefburger... We tend to go at lunchtime for the plat du jour but they also do a la carte and an evening Cinema menu (including wine).

It's delicious, slightly more pricey than most but excellent food and service, Yum, yum.

This is a lovely place with a 13 euro three course plat du jour that are delicious. People advise us that evening meals are equally delicious but service is very slow, it can take 3 - 4 hours to have a three course meal. If this is for you, great, but if not it's probably best to go of a lunchtime but it's definitely not one to miss if possible.

This has wonderful outdoor seating in the warmer months and has the ubiquitous plat du jour which are very nice indeed. Here is more for the view with it overlooking Portbail harbour. Indoors the restaurant has a ground and first floor seating area but this may not be suitable for anyone with limited mobility as the toilets are on the first floor.

this is more like a British Gastro pub. this is one of the few restaurants that do not offer a plat du jour. the food is nice as are the staff.

This is part of the world famous Isigny butter factory but this shows you how the gorgeous caramel products are made and also has the obligatory shop to buy some of the delicious products. Yum yum.

We went on a very busy and very hot July evening having pre-booked a table for four. The restaurant is a few steps up from the beach and overlooks the sea & Jersey so the views are beautiful. We expected the food to be ok but it was delicious. We all had different started and main course and each of us were impressed with the quality. The service was great too, very friendly staff and all of them speak English which is very helpful for visitors who are not confident with the French language. We recommend this restaurant without hesitation and will be going back ourselves.

The restaurant overlooks the canal at Carentan and is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy nice food, good service and a lively atmosphere.

18 Rue de CalignyThis restaurant does nice pizzas and is a favourite of ours. The staff are very nice and all speak English so this is very helpful for visitors less confident with the French language.
The restaurant overlooks the canal at Carentan and is a lovely spot to sit and enjoy nice food, good service and a lively atmosphere.
Drinks & Nightlife
This is quite like a British pub but run by French. It doesn't have British ales though so don't get over excited. It has draught lagers, bottled ciders, wines plus a selection of soft drinks and, of course, coffee and herbal teas. They offer one item at lunch time (it's a sort of nan bread with ham, creme fraiche and potatoes) but you are welcome to bring in your own baguette/patisserie from one of the local shops (not your own from home though, deeply frowned upon).
It does have bands on throughout the year and also some football on television.
